Scenes from different series of paintings have worked their way into ceramic panels and slab plates. Colour exploration with slips, oxides, wax resist and use of the sgraffito technique to reveal the clay body have enabled their depiction. Gun metal glaze and the creation of a granite effect glaze give an effect that both lend themselves to the figurative work.
I particularly enjoy the challenge of coil pottery with the white earthenware, it provides an interesting surface for my sketchbook life drawing studies and enables the intricate exploration of multiple glazes applied with small sections of natural sponge. A fresh challenge is going to be the use of cultural imagery across a similar surface.
