My studio is a place of quiet focus, where ideas gather and unfold.
Light moves across the surfaces I work with, shifting gently through the day. Shapes, textures and colours become starting points for exploration; familiar forms take on new life as they are reimagined in paint.
At Hawthorns Studio in Ringwood, I work among materials, sketches and studies that guide each new piece. The space is smaller than my previous forest studio, yet it offers an intimacy that encourages close looking and thoughtful making.
Here is a short video showing my working life at Hillview Studio, where I spent many years developing my practice. Much of that spirit continues at Hawthorns Studio.
Peering across the workbench, I notice contrasts of tone, the interplay of marks, and the subtle changes that emerge as layers build. I use my camera and sketchbook with minimal media to capture moments that later evolve into paintings.
Back in the studio, surrounded by these visual notes, I begin to explore marks on a variety of surfaces. Time is spent with underpainting before returning to my multi‑layering processes. My passion is surface and colour, and oil paint brings these qualities to life. The more you look at a painting and its development, the more you see.
